IT HAPPENED TODAY … On 15 October 1972 Fiorentina played at the Bentegodi stadium in Verona against the yellow and blue of Verona for the third day of the 1972-73 Serie A Championship. After De Sisti’s injury, the coach Nils Liedholm decided to make his debut for the young Giancarlo Antognoni who wore the white shirt with the red lily and the number 8 on the back. Fiorentina took the field with this formation: Superchi, Galdiolo, Longoni; Scala, Brizi, Orlandini; Perego, Antognoni, Clerici, Merlo, Sormani. Fiorentina won 2-1 thanks to an own goal by Mascalaito and a goal by Clerici, but the most important news was the debut of the “Boy who played looking at the stars”, the most important and loved player in Viola’s history, Giancarlo ANTOGNONI! Today, on the 50th anniversary of his debut, the Museo Fiorentina celebrates our “Captain”
